Every year, an enormous amount of software gets built — and almost none of it gets remembered. Commit Archive is a yearbook: a permanent, public record of a repository’s year and the people who made it happen.

Add a public GitHub repository to the current edition and we record its 2026: the commits, the contributors, the releases, the busiest week, the person who really did commit at 2am the most. Contributors get yearbook cards and superlatives worth sharing. When the edition closes, the entry freezes — a snapshot of a year of building, kept.

Principles

• Public data only, presented celebratorily — never a roast, never a ranking of “code quality”.
• Statistics are deterministic and honest: exact numbers labeled exact, sampled metrics labeled sampled, observed changes only.
• People own their presence: contributors can opt out instantly; maintainers can claim or remove entries.
• Recognition is never for sale: archiving costs a few dollars, award votes cost nothing and can’t be bought.
• No AI-generated write-ups — pages are built from data, templates, and rules.
